Speaker: Scott Munsterman, Mayor of Brookings, SD

Mayor Munsterman will discuss the I-29 partnership that promotes the development of industry clusters along I-29 among communities on or near the interstate while also works to develop specific strategies for regional economic development.

Dr. Scott Munsterman started professional practice nearly 24 years ago in Brookings, South Dakota. He and his wife Mary Jeanne have five daughters, one son-in-law and two grandchildren.

Over the course of his professional career, Dr. Munsterman has developed a path well recognized in the State of South Dakota. He has served his profession through various leadership roles including President of the South Dakota Chiropractors Association and has been awarded Chiropractor of the Year. He became involved in major health plans, leading a six state regional chiropractic PPO network contracting with many health insurance payers. He has served and was reappointed by Governor Rounds to the Governor’s Health Care Commission and awarded a Fellow of the International College of Chiropractors (FICC). He was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Northwestern Health Science University.
His professional career interests have developed over the years.

Dr. Munsterman utilizes acupuncture and manipulation under anesthesia in practice. His interest in integrated health care over the years led him and other colleagues to form a group practice and develop a multidisciplinary pain center. The Brookings clinic has chiropractic physicians, medical pain management anesthesiologists, podiatrists, as well as behavioral psychology, physical therapy and massage therapy.

In addition to his leadership in health care over the years, Scott began a political path 8 years ago. After serving on the Brookings City Council, he was elected Mayor and is now serving in his second term. His interest in economic development over the years has served the Brookings region well. His experience and success as a Mayor has led him to file a statement of organization for Governor of the State of South Dakota for 2010.

Mayor Munsterman has a passion for being on purpose and he has a deep commitment for the future of our young generations.

Building a Culture of Confidence in Rural South Dakota

From Edgemont to Sisseton and Timberlake to Huron communities across South Dakota are creating bright and promising futures for their citizens and businesses. SD Rural Enterprise stimulates financial and human investment in South Dakota rural communities that invest in themselves. Beth Davis, President, will share a story of the renaissance of South Dakota’s rural economy.


Beth Davis is the President of South Dakota Rural Enterprise, Inc, is a statewide, not-for-profit, intermediary providing capital and leadership resources to support rural development. Prior to coming to SD Rural Enterprise Beth was a partner, chief financial officer, and project manager for Midwest Mediation and Facilitation, Inc., a conflict resolution firm specializing in business, real estate, and environmental disputes. Beth served as the interim director for the Entrepreneur Network for Women and coordinator for the Center for Enterprise Facilitation. Ms. Davis directed a statewide community health education non-profit and started several private business enterprises. Beth has a passion for bringing people together to solve problems, resolve issues and create futures for themselves and future generations.

Speaker: Rob Joyce, Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society

The Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society hosts an annual music festival- JazzFest. Executive Director Robert Joyce will discuss aspects of presenting this summer favorite, with emphasis on community involvement and volunteerism.

JazzFest is July 17-18, 2009 and is one of the largest jazz and blues festivals in the upper Midwest, with approximately 90,000 attending. The festival is organized by the Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society, who’s mission is to increase the awareness of jazz and blues music in the community and region, through musical events and education.

Robert Joyce has been an adjunct faculty member at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota since 1988. He teaches courses in Electronic Music, Arranging, History of Jazz, as well as 20th Century Music History.

Joyce is an accomplished composer and educator. He has been active in the arts community in Sioux Falls all his life. He was an "emerging artist" grant recipient in 1988 from the South Dakota Arts Council and was on the Artists-In-Schools roster from 1992-1996. He was involved in various musicals at the Sioux Falls Community Playhouse as a musician, actor, arranger and musical director from 1985-1999.

Joyce is also the Executive Director of the non-profit arts organization the Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society. He has served on the board of directors of the Society since 1994 and has been the chair of the annual Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Festival, JazzFest since 1996.

Joyce's expertise in electronic music composition and knowledge of jazz music has made him a highly sought after speaker, adjudicator and clinician. He has been host of "Sunday Night Jazz" a highly rated weekly radio program on KELO FM Radio 1992-2003 and South Dakota Public Radio beginning in 2004 to present.

Joyce graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1984 and with a Masters of Arts in 1996.
